Slavery and human trafficking statement
VA is a specialist recruitment organisation in the UK.
Following the implementation of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, VA is committed to maintaining and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure modern slavery is not taking place anywhere within our own business or in any of our supply chains.
Modern slavery is criminal activity and a violation of human rights. The deprivation of a person’s liberty by another in order to exploit them for personal or commercial gain is unacceptable. For these reasons, slavery and human trafficking is a matter of zero tolerance at VA.
Internally, we engage with our employees, clients and candidates on a professional and respectful basis and have established contractual employment practices clearly outlining their rights under UK legislation.
All employees are paid above national minimum wage and have access to a suite of benefits including pension and private healthcare.
Our employees are protected by internal policies, including anti-slavery and human trafficking, formal grievance, code of conduct and whistle-blowing policies, which provide both protection and a voice in challenging malpractice, and we provide employee training at induction clearly laying out their obligations under related legislation and conduct policies.
Supply Chain management
We expect that all suppliers to the group meet our own standards of compliance with local legislation, including the Modern Slavery Act 2015. All staff involved in the engagement of suppliers must communicate our zero-tolerance approach to all prospective parties at the outset of our business relationship and monitor our approach as appropriate thereafter.
Responsibility for reporting incidents
The detection and reporting of slavery is the responsibility of all of us. Our employees are expected to raise any concerns about any issue or suspicion of modern slavery in any part of our business or supply chain at the earliest possible stage.
This policy applies to all members, employees, agents, consultants and those parties in our supply chain. Any reported breach of this policy will be investigated and may lead to disciplinary action which subsequently could result in employee dismissal.
This statement is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
Diversity and Inclusion
VA recognises that authentic diverse recruitment practice starts from within. It is our consultants who empower and enable us as a business to attract and effectively represent diverse candidates. Our Diversity & Inclusion strategy has a focus on internal training, policy and experience. This is because if we educate ourselves, understand privilege, become aware of our unconscious bias and constantly challenge it, we are then better able to appreciate and understand our candidates beyond their profiles. We understand that we have a critical role to play in improving best practice throughout the recruitment process, becoming a credible recruitment partner to our clients and in turn supporting them in the development of their own D&I strategy.
D&I Internal training
Our mandatory training programme includes unconscious bias, behavioural awareness and values-based elements, and is delivered to all new starters and existing employees. We aim to empower our consultants with a deeper understanding of D&I so that we understand the influence that our thinking has on our external recruitment practices.
Internal hiring strategy
VA recognises that a ‘company fit’ can create a group of recruiters who ultimately recruit and attract very similar candidates. We have revised our internal hiring process to encourage increased diversity across the business. This includes more inclusive decision making around hires, educating our consultant recruitment agencies, and looking at competence and potential rather than background.
